Winter Swimming & Spring Winds

The Red Sea stays surprisingly warm in winter, making sea swimming possible year-round. However, hotel pools can feel chilly unless they are heated. If you’re visiting in January or February, ensure your hotel offers a heated pool, especially in the Nabq Bay area, where strong winds can make the air feel much cooler after you step out of the water.

March brings perfect, mild temperatures, but it is known as the windiest month in Sharm El Sheikh. Expect occasional sandstorms and gusty days. While it’s great for kitesurfing, be prepared for some dust and breezy evenings—bringing a light windbreaker or jacket is highly recommended for outdoor dinners.

The Golden Window & Peak Summer Heat

Late March to Late May is arguably the best time to visit Sharm El Sheikh. From late March to late May, the weather is exceptionally pleasant and suitable for every activity imaginable. Whether you’re planning a desert safari, a boat trip, or just lounging by the sea, the temperatures are “just right”—warm enough for a perfect tan but mild enough to stay outdoors all day without discomfort.

From June through late September, be prepared for intense, “fire” heat. Temperatures frequently soar above 45°C, and the midday sun is extremely powerful. While this is the best time for divers who love warm water, it can be punishing for sightseeing. If you visit during these months, we highly recommend staying hydrated and limiting your outdoor excursions to early mornings or late evenings.

The Golden Peak & Winter Sun

If you’re looking for the perfect Sharm El Sheikh experience, this is the time. From early October through late December, the weather is flawless. October and November are the “Golden Months”—the sea is at its best temperature for diving (26°C-27°C), while the air is warm and comfortable, not scorching. Even in December, you’ll enjoy clear blue skies and a “Winter Sun” that is much stronger than anything in Europe, making it the top choice for Christmas and New Year holidays.

Don’t let the daytime sun fool you; Sharm El Sheikh has a desert climate. From mid-November through March, the temperature drops significantly as soon as the sun goes down. While you’ll be in your swimwear at noon, you will definitely need a light jacket, hoodie, or sweater for evening walks or dinners by the sea. Always pack layers to stay comfortable throughout the day and night.

Sharm El Sheikh Weather Pro-Tips

Insider insights to help you master the Red Sea climate like a local

UV Alert

Don’t let the cool breeze fool you. Because of the thin desert air, the UV Index in Sharm is high year-round, even in January. You can get a sunburn without feeling “hot.” Always wear SPF 50+, under sun.

Early Sunset

In Sharm El Sheikh the sun sets surprisingly early. In winter (Nov–Feb), it gets dark by 4:45 PM – 5:15 PM. To maximize your beach and snorkeling time, start your day at 8:00 AM. Once the sun drops, the temperature follows immediately.

Dry Heat Advantage

Sharm has a “Dry Heat” climate (Humidity stays around 30-50%). This means 40°C in Sharm feels much more comfortable than 30°C in humid Europe or Asia. You won’t sweat as much, but you will dehydrate faster, doubling your water intake is a must here.

Jetty Safety

Sharm’s weather can be windy, especially in Nabq Bay. When the wind is strong, hotels fly a Red Flag, meaning the jetty is closed for swimming for your safety. If you are a keen snorkeler, check the daily wind forecast; if it’s above 20km/h, plan your water activities for sheltered bays like Naama or Hadaba.
